Cottonseed Oilcake

Cotton-seed Oilcake is one of the most important oilcake used in feed industry. Its local demand is so high that export is very limited. It is actively traded in markets as well on commodity exchanges for futures trading. It is also known to be used as organic manure due to contents of nitrogen, potash and phosphorus in it.

Cotton is mainly grown in western and southern India. The sowing is done during June-July period and harvesting starts from October. The other main producers are China & US. Cotton seed oilcake extracted by scientific method is known as decorticated

one. In India, it is mainly extracted by primitive method and known as undecorticated cotton seed oilcake.

India' export of cottonseed oilcake is limited with South Korea, China, Taiwan being the major buyers.

Cottonseed Oilcake Prices

25th Sept - US$ 240-250
With the new good crop expectation for cotton the prices are going downwards. The Dec futures for cottonseed oilcake has dropped by around 5% in last 3 weeks.

4th Sept. - US$ 270-280
Cotton seed oilcake moved further down due to good cotton crop expectation and depriciation of rupee. The futures trading for Sep was down by 6.5% during last couple of week and quoting below the spot rates.

20th August - US$ 290-300
Due to good monsoon this season and appreciating dollar the commodity prices have shown the decline. The sept. commodity future was down by almost 6% during this month.

30th July - US$ 310-320
The cotton seed oilcake prices have dropped down in last few days due to good monsoon in its major producing region. But this year it is expected that the acerage of cotton is low as it replaced by soybean and groundnut which have given better realisations to farmers in last season.
