Niger Seed

Niger seed is basically used for bird feed. The production of nyjer seed in India is around 2 lakh tonnes. India exports around 30000 MT of nyger seeds worldwide.

In India niger seeds are used to make a dry Chutney eaten alongwith breads. They are also used as a spice in some curries as Indian are known for thier spicy food haibts.

US has been the major buyer with import of approximately 75% of India's total niger seed exports. Other major importers are EU, Singapore, Canada, Mexico, Brazil.
