Rapeseed-Mustard seed Oilcake

Rapeseed is mainly grown in the northern belt of India with production heavily dependent upon monsoon.

The rapeseed is crushed to obtain oil and cake which is used as ingredient in animal feed or sent to solvent extraction for removal of residual oil and obtain its meal which is commercially more traded than oilcake.

The meal is preferred over oilcake due to its versatile use so the export of rapeseed-mustard seed oilcake is limited as there is local demand in feed industry as well for solvent extraction for removal of oil and meal which has preference in overseas market over oilcake.

Bangladesh, China, Japan, Thailand & Malaysia are the major buyers for rapeseed-mustardseed oilcake.

The prices of rapeseed-mustardseed oilcake move in conjunction with other oilmeals and oilcakes esp. soybean meal as RSM, is considered as cheaper substitute to SBM.

The commodity price was almost on the same level in local market but depriciation of rupee made it cheaper for export market.

The prices have shown the drop in last few days mainly due to the drop in rapeseed meal prices. The demand for oilcake is mainly for extracting the residual oil from it and obtaining its meal so any variation in its meal very much affect the prices of rapeseed-mustardseed oilcake too.
